About the Suncatchers

These are all hand painted on glass using a translucent Premium paint to allow the sun to shine through. The process is mostly done with a toothpick. The frames are upcycled to do our part for the environment, not just saving beautiful frames, but also keeping each piece individually unique!

In 2023, A Blue Star Mom, and very good friend posted a Blue Star Suncatcher on social media. Since then, I’ve sent a Military Suncatcher out to over 30 states. It has been my honor to make these for other families who are missing their children too. All the love that can’t be given to my Son, is put into the Suncatchers for yours. The goal is to get a Blue Star Suncatcher hanging in every state across America! Proud to be an Associate Member of the Blue Star Mothers of New Hampshire.

The Process

After determining an image, the scene is outlined with a liquid lead, which requires 24 hours drying time.

Once the leading is thick enough, the first layer of paint is applied. Removing the air bubbles is a daunty task, no piece is without an air bubble or two, which adds to its uniqueness. Each color paint has 2 layers, both require 24-48 hours to feel dry to the touch. Please continue through this page to see how to properly care for your suncatcher.

Once the piece is completely dry, any final touch-ups are made. It is then sealed with an epoxy coating to protect the paint, and glued into it’s frame.. An average 11" x 14” piece takes approximately 40-50 hours, depending on the extent of the detail and the necessary refurbishment of the frame chosen.

  • These Suncatchers are intended for indoor use only.

  • They are made with premium paints however, like anything, they will fade if exposed to direct sunlight. Exposing to a strong southerly sun is not advisable.

  • They only require a light dusting with something soft, astringents and detergents can damage the gloss finish.
